About

It’s home.

That’s what people say about this place. Not just a building. Not just a service. Home. Like a family.

We’ve been creating this home since 1993. Learn our story. Meet our team. Find us.

Who We Are

A community centre in Pooraka. Open since 1993. 32 years of believing everyone deserves to belong.

We run classes, groups, activities and events. We create spaces for learning and connection. We check on each other. We validate. We listen.

“Nobody’s really going to check on me.” That’s what people tell us before they come. Then they join us. We check on each other. We notice when someone’s missing. We care.

Pooraka Farm Community Centre

Our Story

We began in 1993

Started as Pooraka Farm Neighbourhood House. Small beginning. Big vision. Create a place where everyone belongs.

We grew with our community

Added new programs as our community changed. Listened to what people needed. Adapted. Stayed relevant.

Still here, still growing

32 years later. Still believing everyone deserves home. Still creating spaces for connection and learning.

58% of our Adult Community Education participants come from different countries. Multiple generations use our centre. Babies in playgroup to retirees in fitness classes.

Everyone belongs here.

Our Team

Real people who care. Many of our staff have lived experience of isolation, struggle and wondering if they belong anywhere. This place became home for us. Now we help create that home for you.

Our staff bring specialist skills: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural leadership, multicultural support, adult education expertise, operational management. Our management committee are volunteers from our community who guide our work. Our volunteers make everything possible – helping with classes, events, welcoming and more.

We understand because we’ve been there. We listen because we know what it feels like to not be heard. We validate because we know what it means to be told you’re clever for the first time.

Our Partners

We work with organisations who share our belief that everyone deserves to belong. City of Salisbury is our major partner and supporter. We receive grants from Department of Human Services, Skills SA and Anglicare. These partnerships mean we can keep our doors open, offer affordable programs and serve our community for the long term.

We’re proud to auspice the Warringga Committee – an Aboriginal-led group working on Traditional Ecological Knowledge and community projects. They coordinate our NAIDOC Week event each year.

Community groups meet here regularly – kinder ballet, taekwondo, quilting, Amana Institute and more. We partner with organisations including Morella Community Centre, Dream in Code, Vietnam Veterans Edinburgh, Uniting Communities, CITC, TAFE SA and many others.

Together, we serve our community better. Different expertise. Shared values. Stronger outcomes for you.

What We Believe

Everyone Deserves To Belong

No prerequisites. No tests. No proving you’re ready.

Past Experiences Don’t Define You

Bad experiences in education don’t mean you can’t learn. Trauma doesn’t mean you’re broken.

Your Comfort Comes First

Come when ready. Leave when needed. Your pace. Your choice.

Community Heals

Real connection with real people. We check on each other. We care.

How We’re Organised

We’re a non-profit incorporation. Run by our management committee. Supported by City of Salisbury.

We receive grants from Department of Human Services, Skills SA and Anglicare.

We’re accountable to you, our community, our partners and our funders. But mostly to you.
